Ramblings on Restlessness

Have you ever gone through a period of restlessness?  I feel like that's where I've been for at least the past month, if not longer.  For some reason, I'm just experiencing such a myriad of emotions and I can't figure out why.  It's like my emotions are on the "Happy one second, sad the next" roller coaster (lame name, I know.  My tired brain couldn't come up with a more clever one!)  I know that God has it all figured out and has a legit reason for it, even if I think it's pathetic.

Quite a few months ago, a friend reminded me of these wonderful verses and they continue to periodically pop into my head, even now:

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord.  As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."  Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)

God obviously has a reason for these seasons that we go through.  I think He's using this time in my life to help me cling even more steadfastly to Him and polish some of my character traits, such as patience, at the same time.

Some of my comforts during times of restlessness are:
  • journaling
  • searching for related scriptures
  • listening to worship music
  • cozy local coffee shops with a close friend for good conversation and encouragement
  • spending time outside whether it's going for a walk on a sunshiney day or stargazing on a beautiful clear night.
I'm just wondering- what do you do when you're feeling restless? I'd love to hear some feedback!

Here's a closing quote:

"Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”
―      Aurelius Augustinus, The Confessions of Saint Augustine
